The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has released the calendar year (CY) 2021 proposed rule for services paid under the Medicare Physician Fee Schedule and the Quality Payment Program that includes the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS). I see that the performance threshold and category weights for the 2021 performance period are going to change but I believe PT/OT/ST are only reporting quality and improvement activities. Is that still correct? If so, what are those thresholds and weights?
The weights for the 2021 Performance Period will be the same as they were for 2019 and 2020 Performance Periods.
Will MIPS continue to be a voluntary program in 2021 or will providers that are required to report be penalized if opting not to report.
If you exceed all 3 of the low-volume thresholds during the determination period(s), you are then required to participate in MIPS.
Will this apply to Outpatient Facilities who bill on a UB claim form?
