CMS Proposes Outpatient Total Knee Replacements for 2018

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released the 2018 proposed rule for services paid under the outpatient prospective payment system. In the proposed rule, CMS is proposing to remove the total knee arthroplasty (TKA) from the Inpatient Procedure Only (IPO) List and allow Medicare beneficiaries to have a TKA on an outpatient basis beginning on January 1, 2018.
