COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement (CJR) model aims to support better and more efficient care for beneficiaries undergoing the most common inpatient surgeries for Medicare beneficiaries: hip and knee replacements (also called lower extremity joint replacements or LEJR). This model tests bundled payment and quality measurement for an episode of care associated with hip and knee replacements to encourage hospitals, physicians, and post-acute care providers (i.e. physical and occupational therapists) to work together to improve the quality and coordination of care from the initial hospitalization through 90 days post discharge from the hospital. This webinar will discuss the CJR model, the services included and excluded in the CJR model, how the model may encourage hospitals to enter into financial arrangements with other providers, and the positive bonus payment or potential negative reduction hospitals could face with poor cost containment and quality of care.

OBJECTIVES

At the completion of this webinar, the participant will be able to:

1. Identify the start and end period of the CJR model for knee and hip joint replacements
2. Determine if your hospital must participate in the CJR model
3. List what services provided post discharge are included in the CJR model cost calculation
4. Identify what DRGs are included in the CJR model
5. Describe how outpatient physical and occupational therapists in private practice will be paid in the CJR model
6. Describe how home health agencies, inpatient rehabilitation facilities, and skilled nursing facilities will be paid
in the CJR model
7. Recite how services provided post discharge from hospital acute stay will impact future hospital payments
