This webinar will review current hot legal and compliance topics across a range of issues including a review of the HIPAA audit program, recent HIPAA enforcement examples and lessons learned, recent fraud and abuse enforcement examples and lessons learned, issues with cash pay for rehabilitation services, rules and regulations governing the collection of patient co-payments, and key provisions in payor contracting.

OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify practical compliance tips from recent HIPAA enforcement examples and apply them to your practice.
  1. Identify key compliance considerations based upon recent rehabilitation fraud and abuse settlements.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Paul Welk, PT, JD is an attorney at Tucker Arensberg, P.C. in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He focuses his legal practice in the areas of business and health care law and in this capacity frequently represents physical therapists, rehabilitation providers, and professional organizations. Paul is a lobbyist and legal counsel for the Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Association and provides legal services to the APTA and a number of its chapters on a variety of issues. He served as Chair of the APTA Committee on Risk Management and Member Benefits and is the founding author of The Legal Impact, a regular column in the APTA Private Practice Section’s Impact Magazine. Paul lectures regularly at professional association events, colleges, and universities and is a member of the Duquesne University School of Physical Therapy Advisory Board.

COURSE FORMAT

Audio – phone connection required only if your computers do not have speakers or you will not be at a computer.

Webinar – Computer and internet connection required. Participants will be provided a url link where they can log in and follow the presentation on their computer as the speaker provides the presentation. If your computer has speakers, you will be able to hear the audio portion through your computer speakers and will not require a phone connection. If no speakers on your computer or unable to be at a computer, participants will need to call in to the phone number provided to them to hear the audio portion. You will need adobe flash.

CEUs

This webinar has not been submitted to any state board or national organization for CEU approval. A certificate of attendance will be available upon completion of the webinar for each participant and may be adequate for credit in some states; you will need to contact your state licensing regulatory body to determine whether or not credit will be granted for this webinar conference.
