COURSE DESCRIPTION
Physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists who bill Medicare for outpatient therapy services in private practice settings must participate successfully in the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) in 2016 in order to avoid a 2.0% reduction in payment from the Medicare program in 2018. To avoid the penalty in 2018, physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech-language pathologists must report on 50% of eligible Medicare patients, either as an individual eligible professional or as a group practice.
OBJECTIVES
At the completion of this webinar, the participant will be able to:
1. Identify the quality measures for 2016 that apply to physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists in private practice
2. Recognize the distinction between reporting the individual measures and the group measures
3. Identify how often measures must be reported and when they must be reported
4. Understand the consequences of not successfully reporting in 2016 and its impact on your 2018 payment
5. Discuss what must be documented in the medical record to support the measures reported
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Rick Gawenda, P.T., graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Gawenda is currently the President and founder of Gawenda Seminars & Consulting, Inc. and Director of Finance for Kinetix Advanced Physical Therapy Inc., a private practice with multiple locations located in southern California. He has provided valuable education and consulting to hospitals, rehabilitation agencies, private practices, nursing homes, and his peers in the areas of CPT and ICD-10 coding, billing, documentation, payment, and compliance as it pertains to outpatient therapy services as well as denial management and the appeals process for Medicare denied claims.
