COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Providers of outpatient physical and occupational therapy have been using their respective new evaluation CPT codes since January 1, 2017. However, many practices and organizations are having a difficult time understanding how personal factors, comorbidities and the clinical presentation of the patient can impact the complexity level of the initial evaluation and change the billing from a low complexity evaluation to perhaps a moderate or high complexity evaluation.

This 2-hour webinar will use case scenarios to teach participants how personal factors and/or comorbidities as well as the clinical presentation of the patient all have an impact on determining the complexity level of the initial evaluation. Case scenarios will include pediatrics, orthopedics and neurological. The webinar will also discuss the importance of the subjective and objective portion of the initial examination and the documentation that must be present to support the level of evaluation billed to the insurance carrier.

OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of this webinar presentation, participants will be able to:

• Identify personal factors and comorbidities that may impact the therapy plan of care
• Be able to identify elements and performance deficits during the examination
• Recite examples of stable, evolving and changing, and unstable and unpredictable
• Describe the importance of the subjective and objective component of the initial examination
• List the documentation requirements to support the level of evaluation reported and billed
• Be able to report the correct evaluation code based on evaluation findings and documentation

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Rick Gawenda, P.T., graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Gawenda is currently the President and founder of Gawenda Seminars & Consulting, Inc. and Director of Finances for Kinetix Advanced Physical Therapy Inc., a private practice located in southern California. He has provided valuable education and consulting to hospitals, rehabilitation agencies, private practices, nursing homes, and his peers in the areas of CPT and ICD-10 coding, billing, documentation, reimbursement, and compliance as it pertains to outpatient therapy services as well as denial management and the appeals process for Medicare denied claims. COURSE FORMAT

Webinar – Computer and internet connection required. Participants will be provided a url link where they can log in and follow the presentation on their computer as the speaker provides the presentation. If your computer has speakers, you will be able to hear the audio portion through your computer speakers and will not require a phone connection. If no speakers on your computer or unable to be at a computer, participants will need to call in to the phone number provided to them to hear the audio portion. You will need adobe flash.

CEUs

This webinar has not been submitted to any state board or national organization for CEU approval. A certificate of attendance will be available upon completion of the webinar for each participant and may be adequate for credit in some states; you will need to contact your state licensing regulatory body to determine whether or not credit will be granted for this webinar conference.
