The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits effective with dates of service July 1, 2018 – September 30, 2018 is now available for my Gold Members. I know we use the 59 modifier to demonstrate distinct and separate services with timed codes.
We also use the 59 modifier when we bill biofeedback with neuromuscular re-education. But what is the modifier identifying here since biofeedback is not a timed code? Does documentation still need to show separate and distinct treatment or can both treatments be done together?
