I receive many questions asking what a therapist and/or a practice/organization needs to do or should do when a patient who is receiving outpatient physical, occupational, and/or speech therapy services is hospitalized. In this article, I will answer the following questions:

  1. A little tip. If you are billing Medicare, be sure the patient is not receiving any type of skilled services in the home post-hospitalization (Plan A Home Health) to be sure you will be reimbursed for your services.

    Regarding the last question, if the patient was hospitalized, and the therapist discharged the patient, wouldn’t the therapist be required to do an initial evaluation if the patient returned to therapy?
