Is PT, OT, and SLP No Longer Considered a Professional Degree?

H.R. 1 – One Big Beautiful Bill Act was signed into law on July 4, 2025 by President Trump. At the time, it extended payment by the Medicare program for outpatient therapy delivered via telehealth through September 30, 2025. However, one important piece of the legislation was overlooked until now.

This Act, beginning on July 1, 2026, will limit how much a graduate student and professional student can borrow, both annually and in aggregate. Will this impact PT, OT, and SLP students? In this article, I will answer the following questions:
