Wisconsin Physician Services (WPS), Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) for Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, and Nebraska, has released the top error rates for improper Medicare payments for therapeutic exercise (CPT code 97110). Per the report, errors were assessed due to:

  • Lack of documentation to support the required specific 10 day progress note, to be completed on the 10th day of treatment
  • Missing physician/non-physician practitioner (NPP) signed and dated plan of care
  • Lacking clear documentation in minutes of the total treatment time to support the number of units billed for each treatment day
