For calendar year 2019, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has added physical therapists (PTs) and occupational therapists (OTs) in private practices (submit claims on a 1500-claim form) as a Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) eligible clinician. For performance year 2019, only 2 categories will apply to PTs and OTs in private practice; quality measures and improvement activities. MIPS applies only to Private Practices and no other settings.
This webinar will teach participants the 2019 quality measures, how each measure can be reported (claims vs registry), which G-codes will count as the performance being met or the quality measure being excluded from the Performance Rate, how to score 100% for each quality measure and how the points for each measure will be determined by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The webinar will provide participants with possible Improvement Activities that can be reported by PTs and OTs and give examples of high-weighted and medium-weighted Improvement Activities. Finally, the webinar will provide some case scenario’s showing how your score will be calculated by CMS and what your score means in terms of a payment adjustment in 2021.
At the conclusion of this webinar presentation, participants will be able to:
- List the Quality Measures available for PTs and OTs in 2019
- Recite how the Quality Measures can be reported to CMS (claims vs registry)
- Compare the PT & OT specialty set versus the Physical Medicine specialty set quality measures
- Explain how many Quality Measures must be reported by PTs and OTs in 2019
- Clarify what percent of patients the Quality Measures must be reported on for claims-based reporting and registry reporting
- Understand how each measure is scored and how the Performance Rate will determine your score for each quality measure
- Differentiate between the G-codes within each measure and know which one(s) need to be reported to maximize your score for that Quality Measure
- Name some Improvement Activities that are high-weighted and name some Improvement Activities that are medium-weighted
- Calculate their estimated score for the 2019 MIPS Performance Period
- Pros and Cons of reporting via claims vs registry
