COURSE DESCRIPTION:

To meet the needs of their clients, many therapists, private practices and facilities have initiated telehealth services; however, may not be doing it correctly in terms of consent forms, platform being utilized, policies and procedures, documentation, CPT coding and billing.

This webinar will teach participants about consent forms, documenting patient consent to receive telehealth services and to be recorded, policies and procedures that must be in place, HIPAA compliant platforms and models of delivery of telehealth services, CPT codes and modifiers to be used on the claim form, payment amounts from insurance carriers and providing telehealth services across state lines.

OBJECTIVES:

At the conclusion of this webinar presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand and be able to explain the terms and models of telehealth used in physical therapy
  2. Explain the different systems used to deploy telehealth in their practice and within the compact and technology
  3. Describe how to implement telehealth into their patient’s journey
  4. Understand the documentation that must be present in the medical record to support patient consent and treatment rendered
  5. Recite what CPT code(s) can be used to bill for telehealth services
  6. Select the appropriate modifier(s) that be used on the claim form for telehealth services
  7. Explain the legality of providing telehealth services across state lines

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Rick Gawenda, P.T., graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Gawenda is currently the President and founder of Gawenda Seminars & Consulting, Inc. and Director of Finances for Kinetix Advanced Physical Therapy Inc., a private practice located in southern California. He has provided valuable education and consulting to hospitals, rehabilitation agencies, private practices, nursing homes, and his peers in the areas of CPT and ICD-10 coding, billing, documentation, reimbursement, and compliance as it pertains to outpatient therapy services as well as denial management and the appeals process for Medicare denied claims. Mr. Gawenda’s website, www.gawendaseminars.com, provides a valuable source of information on rehabilitation rules and regulations, coding, documentation, and reimbursement.

Mr. Gawenda is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and Michigan Physical Therapy Association (MPTA). Mr. Gawenda is the Past President of the Section on Health Policy & Administration of the APTA as well as Past President of the Michigan Association of Medical Rehabilitation Program Administrators.

Dr. Mark Milligan, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT, is a board certified, fellowship trained, orthopedic manual therapist who specializes in the intelligent prevention and treatment of all human conditions. He is a passionate change-agent, founding Revolution Human Physical Therapy and Education, a mobile physical therapy and micro-education company based in Austin, Texas. This webinar has not been submitted to any state board or national organization for CEU approval.
