Does CMS Require Updated Orders for Therapy

Now that the United States has transitioned to ICD-10 for services provided on or after October 1, 2015, a question I am often asked is do we have to obtain new or updated orders from the physician for Medicare beneficiaries receiving outpatient therapy services. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has provided an updated answer to this question.

    We were told by multiple payers, specifically our state Medicaid that we MUST have a new code provided by the MD. Not a new referral/order, but we could not “cross-walk” the code.

    1. That would be up to your state Medicaid program and that is different for every state. Medicaid is not the same as Medicare.
