Thanks Rick for all you do , and for entertaining us at the same time!
Thank you! I try to keep you entertained.
Hi, Thank you Rick. This is very helpful.
Do we have any intel that Congress may act on the Telehealth PT, OT and SLP issue? If Congress does not act before the end of the year we will need to stop Telehealth services for Medicare patients on 12/31/24, correct?
My opinion is Congress will extend telehealth for 2 years sometime in December 2024.
Hi Rick, In our hospital system, we have physical therapy practitioners working in a hospital based OP therapy department in Oregon. The Oregon PT Practice Act has relatively new language supporting PTs in the delivery of telehealth. What happens for PTs in OR if Congress does not pass legislation allowing PTs to continue to deliver therapy services via telehealth? Meaning, will they be allowed to continue providing telehealth because of the language in the practice act? Or will Congress’s decision supersede this?
If you are allowed to provide OP therapy via telehealth per your practice act, that does not change. Whether or not Medicare will continue to reimburse for OP therapy delivered via telehealth in 2025 will depend on Congress extending the exception prior to December 31, 2024.
