NGS to Host Therapy Webinars

National Government Services (NGS) will host a 2-part webinar series on Outpatient Physical and Occupational Therapy Billing and Coding. Cahaba Prepayment Medical Reviews Include Therapy

Cahaba Government Benefit Administrators, Medicare Administrative Contractor for the states of Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee, have published their prepayment medical review log for March 2015 and the log includes therapy services. Cahaba is conducting prepayment medical reviews in all 3 states on Inpatient Rehab services as well as all CPT codes under Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation for Part B.

Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility Services – CERT Errors

Wisconsin Physician Services Medicare has noted recent Comprehensive Error Rate Testing (CERT) denials for Inpatient Rehabilitation Facility (IRF) services. In the majority of these cases, the CERT reviewer determined the documentation did not support that the patient participated in an intensive individual rehabilitation program as required by Medicare regulations. There were also instances where the plan of care (POC) did not document the expected amount of therapy time “by discipline” (physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and orthotics/prosthetics).
