COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Physical, occupational and speech therapy services continue to be on the audit radar for various Medicare Administrative Contractors MACs) and private insurance carriers medical review entities. In addition, all MACs have implemented the Targeted Probe & Educate medical reviews for outpatient therapy services. This webinar will review the necessary components of documentation for the progress report, daily notes, discharge report, and the Medicare certification and recertification process that will help you document the key points in supporting medical necessity and the skilled nature of physical, occupational, and speech therapy services.

OBJECTIVES:

At the completion of this course the participant will be able to:

1. Identify reasonable and necessary criteria for skilled therapy services
2. Describe and implement the necessary components of a progress report to support the therapy already provided and the
need for continued skilled therapy services
3. Apply strategies to more effectively support medical necessity and skilled services in your daily notes
4. Describe and implement the necessary components of a discharge report to demonstrate the nature of skilled services
provided to support why you should be reimbursed for those services
5. Understand the certification and recertification process for Medicare Part B therapy services

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Rick Gawenda, P.T., graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Gawenda is currently the President and founder of Gawenda Seminars & Consulting, Inc. and Director of Finances for Kinetix Advanced Physical Therapy Inc., a private practice located in southern California. This webinar has not been submitted to any state board or national organization for CEU approval.
